(Oregon Right to Life) — Planned Parenthood’s most recent annual report indicates a record number of abortions and surging rates of online “telehealth” appointments. The report has prompted prominent pro-life groups to renew calls for the abortion giant to be permanently defunded at the federal level.
Planned Parenthood published its 2024-2025 report this week, showing service data from 2023-2024 – prior to the federal government’s temporary defunding of the abortion giant through the July 2025 “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
According to the report, Planned Parenthood performed a total of 434,450 abortions last year: a new record that exceeds the prior year’s numbers by 8% (32,200 more abortions nationwide). The new number also represents a 34% increase over the past decade, the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute highlighted in a fact sheet.
Overall, abortions made up 97% of pregnancy-related services performed at Planned Parenthood facilities. The numbers of prenatal services (7,685) and adoption referrals (3,038) increased compared to the prior year, however they still only accounted for 1.7% and 0.7% of pregnancy-related services, respectively. As the Charlotte Lozier Institute analysis pointed out, for every adoption referral in 2023-24, there were 143 abortions.
Planned Parenthood also reported 320,390 “telehealth” appointments, more than double the approximately 142,000 reported the previous year. The elimination of federal regulations on the distribution of mifepristone in recent years – allowing its online prescription and distribution through the mail – has contributed to an increase in the rate of online prescriptions of chemical abortion drugs, with the majority of all abortions now being carried out via chemical means.

“While Planned Parenthood touts itself as a broad health care organization, their report makes clear that when they declare ‘Care continues,’ as their most recent theme, they don’t mean expanding their contraceptive or cancer screenings or even their prenatal offerings,” wrote Randall K. O’Bannon Ph.D., Director of Education & Research for National Right to Life, in a press release. “Those continue to fall or languish every year.”
“The ‘care’ they clearly mean is ABORTION,” O’Bannon said. “They make their money and stake their reputation off their lucrative abortion enterprise, which they promote and perform more every year.”
The most recent report has triggered renewed calls for the federal government to put a permanent end to federal funding of Planned Parenthood.
Michael New, a political scientist and associate scholar with the Charlotte Lozier Institute, noted in an April 8 column for National Review that Planned Parenthood’s annual reports have, in recent years, “taken on additional significance… because congressional Republicans have demonstrated their willingness to stop federal taxpayer dollars from going to Planned Parenthood.”
“Indeed, this year’s report should bolster pro-life efforts to defund Planned Parenthood for the upcoming fiscal year,” New suggested. “[T]his report provides very solid evidence that Planned Parenthood continues to prioritize abortion at the expense of real health-care services.”
Similarly, Live Action spokesman Noah Brandt said in comments to EWTN News that the report signals a growing need for a permanent defunding of Planned Parenthood at the federal level.
“These tragic numbers show exactly why we can’t settle for a one-year pause of the abortion giant’s federal funding, which expires on July 4, 2026,” Brandt said. “Congress needs to extend the defund and make it permanent to shut down the flow of public dollars to an organization that’s killing nearly half a million American children every year.”

Planned Parenthood’s latest report comes as new guidelines from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), along with provisions within the proposed 2027 federal budget, are set to cut back at least some federal funding from Planned Parenthood next year. However, Title X funds to Planned Parenthood were recently unfrozen, provoking strong expressions of disappointment from prominent pro-life advocates. A White House spokesman stated in recent comments to The Daily Wire that all future Title X funding for Planned Parenthood will be stopped going forward, explaining that the administration had faced significant legal restrictions on stopping this year’s funds.
It remains unclear whether Congress will extend the full federal defunding of Planned Parenthood, which is currently set to expire on July 4.
