Poll Shows Majority of Oregonians Support Abortion Limits

Salem, OR—A DHM Research Poll conducted in early August investigated Oregonians’ views on abortion. They reported that 65% of Oregonians consider themselves pro-choice. However, 58% believe that abortions in the third trimester of pregnancy should be illegal, “except in cases to save the life of the mother,” including 48% of Democrats and 59% of women. DHM Research also found 41% of Oregonians support limits on abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

“Contrary to the insistence of pro-abortion activists, most Oregonians support limits on abortion,” said Lois Anderson, executive director of Oregon Right to Life. “We are committed to promoting laws and policies that protect vulnerable lives, and these poll results demonstrate the broad support for things like limits on late-term abortion.”

DHM Research also found that 16% of Democrats rated abortion as the issue most important to them, up from 1% in January. This pattern was not mirrored among non-affiliated voters or Republicans.

“Pro-abortion candidates for governor Tina Kotek and Betsy Johnson are prioritizing their commitment to abortion on demand until the moment of birth paid for by Oregon taxpayers,” Anderson continued. “Christine Drazan is the only candidate in the race who is willing to work with all Oregonians to pass reasonable protections for unborn human beings.”
