On the Passing of Rep. Bob Smith

Sharolyn Smith

On Monday, September 21, former Congressman Bob Smith passed away at the age of 89. He served as the representative of Oregon’s Second Congressional District from 1983 to 1995.

“Congressman Bob Smith reliably voted pro-life while serving the second district in Congress,” said Lois Anderson, ORTL executive director. “He had a 100% pro-life voting record with National Right to Life. Rep. Smith co-sponsored a landmark bill banning partial-birth abortion that was eventually signed into law in 2003. He also steadfastly voted for the Hyde amendment, keeping federal tax dollars from funding abortions.”

“We offer our sincere condolences to Congressman Smith’s family at this time,” said Anderson.
