Get the Facts on School Based Health Centers
The Salem-Keizer School District is considering adding School Based Health Centers to the district to provide medical services to students.
Here is why this proposal is dangerous for our kids:
- Under Oregon law, minors can receive "healthcare" without parental consent or knowledge (ORS 109.640)
- These services can be billed to the insurance of a minor's parents without notification or approval (HB 2758, 2015)
- Oregon law considers abortions, even for minors, to be "healthcare" (HB 3391, 2017)
Last fall, members of the Salem-Keizer School Board proposed creating an action plan to implement School Based Health Centers (SBHCs).
Under this proposal, 15 year old girls could receive abortion pills or even be driven to a Planned Parenthood clinic for a surgical abortion—all without parental knowledge.
- Abortion and other "healthcare" services can be offered on school grounds
- SBHCs can partner with abortion providers to provide surgical abortions as recommended by school staff
- Staff are allowed to decide whether to include or exclude parents from decisions made for minor children
