(Oregon Right to Life News) — A pro-life pregnancy help hotline is answering the call of millions of women and families nationwide, responding to thousands of daily inquiries with compassion and connection to tangible help.

Founded in 2003, Option Line is a bilingual pro-life contact center managed by Heartbeat International. A feature article about the hotline, published by the group’s news arm, Pregnancy Help News, noted that it receives and responds to requests for help via call, text, and chat, as well as its online center locator and website.

Option Line consultants speak with callers who have questions about abortion, adoption, and parenting, expressing care and compassion and helping to connect them with life-affirming resources – including actively scheduling appointments with local pregnancy support centers while on the phone. Recent data from Heartbeat International indicates that pro-life pregnancy resource centers within the organization’s network served more than 1.5 million people in 2025 alone.

According to Pregnancy Help News, the pro-life staff on the other side of the call or text conversation “provide a profound human presence to those they serve, a lifeline at a critical time.”

The article features remarks from Option Line consultants who recount specific moments of directing young women experiencing unexpected or unsupported pregnancies – sometimes even teenagers – to life-affirming care.

“She was just broken and just crying, and she didn’t know what to do, and she wanted an abortion, and she wanted it fast,” one consultant said about a 15-year-old caller. The consultant encouraged the young girl to wait to make a decision until she was in a more calm frame of mind, to which the teen agreed.

“She was just hurt and she needed to talk with someone and get an ultrasound done,” the Option Line consultant said.

And it’s not just pregnant moms who call the hotline.

One Option Line consultant, called “Ruth” (name changed for privacy), spoke about talking with mothers of young people who are experiencing unexpected pregnancies, making sure to interact with them on a personal level and recognize the difficulty of their situation.

“I always stop and say, “How are you doing? This must be really hard for you,”” Ruth said.

Another consultant described her work as both “essential” and “extremely fulfilling.”

Connecting moms, dads, and families with life-affirming support and care is a crucial element of the pro-life movement, and it’s an aspect in which Oregon Right to Life is also deeply involved.

Oregon Right to Life Education Foundation is committed to helping women and families across the state get connected with life-affirming care – from pregnancy and prenatal care and education to parenting classes and even support for housing, food, and clothing. Outreach is particularly important now, with abortions in Oregon last year reaching their highest annual rate since 2009, according to Oregon Health Authority data.

In Eastern Oregon in particular, pro-life advocates have made a special effort to reach moms and families since Planned Parenthood opened an abortion facility near the state border in an effort to draw clients from Idaho, which currently has some of the strongest pro-life laws in the nation.

Anyone looking for life-affirming care in Oregon for themselves or others can access a growing supply of resource guides for particular counties or regions of the state, or go to ortl.org/resources to access a statewide online directory of vetted organizations and service providers.
