(Oregon Right to Life) — A well-known pro-life apologist will take on the issue of human consciousness and its relationship to the abortion debate in an apologetics webinar next week. Proponents of legal abortion in debates frequently argue that human beings in the womb do not have a right to life because they are not yet conscious.

On Wednesday, November 12, pro-life apologist Trent Horn will deliver an online Fall Apologetics Webinar entitled “When Life Isn’t Enough: Answering the ‘Consciousness’ Argument for Abortion” for the pro-life student organization Students for Life of America, headed by Kristan Hawkins.

Trent Horn is the host of a popular podcast entitled “The Counsel of Trent,” where he addresses a range of philosophical, theological, and political topics, including abortion. He has engaged in many public talks and debates defending the pro-life position, including a lengthy debate with popular pro-choice streamer “Destiny” on the “Whatever” podcast in 2023.

Horn’s webinar is designed to equip pro-life advocates with the facts and rhetorical tools they need to effectively rebut pro-choice claims about consciousness and uphold the pro-life position: that every human being has a right to life regardless of his or her size, level of development, environment, or degree of dependency.

“One of the most common arguments pro-choicers make is that preborn humans aren’t “persons” because they lack consciousness.,” Students for Life’s promotion for Horn’s upcoming talk notes. “But what if human value doesn’t depend on self-awareness or mental ability? What if our worth does not come from what we do—but what we are.”

According to the Students for Life of America listing, Horn is slated to “[d]econstruct the ‘consciousness’ argument step-by-step,” help listeners “[e]ngage pro-abortion friends with science and reason,” and “[d]efend the dignity of every human life, from conception to natural death.”

“Whether you’re new to apologetics or a seasoned activist, this webinar will equip you to confidently share the truth about human value,” Students for Life notes.

Horn will also respond to questions posed by audience members, who are encouraged to invite friends who currently support abortion or are undecided.
