Happy Independence Day!
Just like all of us, our nation has a birthday: On July 4th, 2025, the United States of America turns 249 years old!
Unique among nations, America was founded on a set of ideals and firmly held beliefs. Central to our identity as a nation is the belief that we are all created equal and have inherent rights.
America has lived up to these ideals in varying degrees throughout our history, oftentimes standing as a shining representation of freedom and equality.
But sadly, current laws in many states, including Oregon, don’t recognize or protect the fundamental rights of the most vulnerable among us: the unborn.
It shouldn’t be this way.
The unborn are human beings with an inherent right to life. The unborn deserve the same protections that our Founding Fathers guaranteed for all of us.
But there are signs we’re moving in the right direction.
Three years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which had forced states to legalize abortion. This year, the FDA has agreed to investigate the dangerous abortion pill. And on Thursday, Congress voted to approve a bill that will defund Planned Parenthood for a year, a move likely to trigger the shuttering of hundreds of abortion facilities across the country.
It’s an exciting time to be a part of the pro-life movement. There’s so much reason for optimism.
So this Independence Day, let’s celebrate our cherished rights and freedoms – and look forward to the day when ALL of us, including and especially the most vulnerable, are assured of an equal RIGHT TO LIFE.
Happy Independence Day!
