Statement on SCOTUS, Little Sisters

Sharolyn Smith

On July 8, the Supreme Court upheld the conscience rights of the Little Sisters of the Poor and also those of millions of Americans who sincerely object to abortion.

“Even two of the Court’s liberal justices, Breyer and Kagan, acknowledged that the Constitution provides for and protects Americans’ conscience rights,” says Lois Anderson, ORTL executive director. “Abortion ends the lives of human beings. Their destruction alone is reprehensible. Mandating that others participate in that destruction against their consciences is also heinous.”

“Oregon’s supermajority has a track record of running roughshod over the rights of Oregonians,” continued Anderson. “We call on Governor Brown and community leaders to respect conscience rights of all Oregonians, especially those of pro-life healthcare workers.”
