Be a Peaceful Pro-Life Witness

There are many opportunities to be a pro-life witness in Oregon.

Peacefully praying or sharing the pro-life message outside an abortion facility or in your community is one of the most powerful things a person can do to protect the unborn and show support and care for mothers and families.

Organizations like 40 Days for Life and Life Chain make it easy to promote the joyful pro-life message in your area by praying and proclaiming the inherent value of every human life.

This advocacy is proven to change hearts and minds and save innocent unborn lives.

Abortion appointment cancellations increase dramatically when there are people peacefully praying outside an abortion facility.

That means taking part in a prayer vigil can save lives.

“I had always considered myself pro-life, but it was once I got involved with 40 Days for Life that really caused me to make it my own,” Heather Gardner, director of campaign advancement/365 for 40 Days for Life told the organization in a video produced shortly before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

Gardner said becoming involved with 40 Days for Life caused her “to challenge myself to learn more about what abortion was, what the community resources were in our area, and how to truly help women choose life and help families in our community.”

“Our mission is to speak the truth about abortion through professionally printed signs,” Salem Life Chain coordinator Marie Chinn tells Oregon Right to Life.

“The hour is dedicated to prayer- for those contemplating abortion, for those who have been impacted by abortions, for our nation, and government and state leaders, and whatever we are impacted to pray for,” Chinn says.

Life Chain signs display a variety of messages, including “Pregnant? Need Help? 1-800-712-HELP”, “Adoption: the Loving Option,” “Abortion Hurts Women,” and messages with a faith-based focus like “Jesus Forgives and Heals” and “Lord, Forgive us and our Nation.”

“I have seen personally the devastation abortion can have on a person’s life,” Chinn tells Oregon Right to Life.

But she tells us she’s also received motivation and encouragement to keep promoting hope and life-affirming choices.

“I know of one woman who came up to one participant about 5 years ago with her young daughter in her hand,” Chinn says. “She wanted to thank the person for being there. She had seen the signs the year earlier and chose life for her child, despite her family pushing her to have an abortion, as well as the father of her child.
