4th Annual Media Scholarship Winner

Samantha Gilman, a junior at Hillsdale College in Michigan, received the Oregon Right to Life Education Foundation’s $2,000 Media Scholarship/Internship this year. Samantha is enrolled in the Dow Journalism Program at Hillsdale and is gaining first-hand experience in investigative reporting as an intern for the Washington Examiner. During her time with the paper, Samantha has had the opportunity to contribute several articles, video interviews and Twitter updates on the Occupy Washington protestors. Samantha, a native of Corvallis, Oregon states that she was raised with strong pro-life values, values that she intends to uphold in her journalism career. “I believe that it is possible to bring the best of two worlds—objective journalism and opinion writing—together to report the facts that expose the ugly truth about abortion,” says Samantha. The scholarship is awarded to pro-life students preparing for careers in media communications through majors such as graphic design, web design, radio broadcasting, cinema arts and communication, journalism, writing and literature, or similar majors.




ORTL Education Foundation's Annual $2000 Media Scholarship

Are you a firm believer in the sanctity of life from conception to natural death? Are you studying to enter the field of media communications? Do you desire to make an impact in the world of media for the pro-life movement? Then we are looking for you!

What is it?

The Oregon Right to Life Education Foundation, a non-profit, non-partisan, non-sectarian organization that works to educate the public regarding life issues, is now offering a combination scholarship/internship for the student described above. The scholarship portion consists of a $2000 award with the opportunity for renewal on a case-by-case basis. The internship portion involves a 10-20 hour commitment in which you will have the opportunity to work with other dedicated pro-lifers in your chosen field, (i.e. radio, print, broadcast or web media.) The internship may take place during the school year or over the summer and must be completed within one year of receiving the award.

Student Must:

 

  • Be 100% committed to the pro-life message that all life be protected from the moment of conception until the time of natural death
  • Be in training to enter the field of media in one form or another
  • Be a full-time student
  • Be a sophomore, junior, or senior, certain of their major
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.9
  • Participate in an interview as part of the application process
  • Participate in a 10-20 hour internship with the ORTL Education Foundation either during the school year or over the summer
  • Attend the 1 day Oregon Right to Life Conference (April)
  • Appear as a guest on the Oregon Right to Life Education Foundation cable access television program, The Woman to Woman Show
  • Attend 3 tutorials on the issues of Abortion, Embryonic/Adult Stem Cell Research & Cloning, and Assisted Suicide.
